About StonkRider — the fan-made stock chart bike game

The idea

In June 2026, a Reddit post introduced a simple, brilliant idea: what if you could ride a stock chart instead of just staring at it? A motocross bike, real price data as terrain, and the special pain of physically experiencing a 40% drawdown. The concept went viral within days, and the word "stonkrider" went from nowhere to a search trend almost overnight.

This site is an independent, fan-made implementation of that idea — built because we wanted to play it, tinker with the physics, and ride charts the original didn't offer yet. It isn't a clone of anyone's code; the game engine, the data pipeline, and every line of copy here were written from scratch.

How it works

From closing prices to terrain

Every track is generated from real historical closing prices. Pick a ticker and a time range, and each trading day becomes a segment of terrain: up days are green climbs, down days are red descents. The physics engine is deliberately arcade-grade — predictable enough to learn, bouncy enough that a surprise earnings gap can end your run.

Every famous chart moment, as a real place

That means every famous chart moment is a real place here. The 2021 GameStop squeeze is a cliff. The 2022 tech drawdown is a long downhill. Bitcoin is Bitcoin.

Difficulty you can feel

Nothing is hand-tuned per stock. Each chart's difficulty tier — easy, medium, hard or insane — is computed from its real annualized volatility, the same statistic risk desks use. A smooth index fund like SPY rides like a highway; a meme stock or an alt-coin rides like a cliff face, because that is genuinely how their prices moved.

What makes this version different

• Breadth. 50+ featured tracks span stocks, ETFs, indices and crypto, and the search box accepts any Yahoo Finance-listed ticker — type a company name like "Adobe" and the autocomplete resolves it to the right symbol.
• Four time ranges. Ride the last month, six months, a year, or five years of a chart. The same ticker is a different track depending on the window you pick.
• A real scoring economy. Distance barely counts. Points come from tricks — flips, wheelies, stoppies — multiplied by a combo that climbs as you chain them, with star ratings scaled to each track's difficulty. It rewards riding well, not just riding far.
• Honest data. No fabricated numbers, no fake leaderboards padding the page. If a stat is shown, it was computed from real closing prices.

Who builds this

StonkRider at playstonkrider.com is built and run by an independent full-stack developer who ships small web products for a living. The game, the data pipeline, and this site are maintained by one person, which means feedback genuinely gets read and good track requests genuinely get added. If you email about a bug, a real human who wrote the code reads it.

How we keep it honest

• Free, with no account. No signup, no login, no paywall. Open the page, pick a ticker, ride.
• Real data only. Tracks come from real historical prices; difficulty comes from real volatility. We don't invent stats to fill space.
• Clearly unofficial. This is a fan project. We don't claim to be the original StonkRider, and we don't pretend a game is investment guidance.
